Synonyms & Antonyms

ANTONYMS

Antonyms are words of the same class that are antithetical to each other in meaning. In simple language, it is the opposite of a word. Thus life is the antonym of death, good of bad, rise of fall. Mere negations like untruth, good of bad, rise of fall. Mere negations like untruth for truth noiseless for noisy will not do. It should also be noted that some words, used in different senses, have more than one antonym. E.g. right for wrong, and right for left. The opposite of a bright light is not a dark light but a dim light.

In your examination, you would be asked to choose the word that is most nearly opposite in meaning to an underlined word. Below are some antonyms.
